Trojans Get Second Straight Come-from-Behind Win

The West Central Trojans won their second straight after scoring late on Friday, September 9th.  The Trojans got the game-winning touchdown with 1:15 left in the game for a 28-25 win against the Madison Bulldogs.

West Central scored first with 5:35 in the first quarter.  Justin Zirpel had a 34-yard touchdown run with the extra point good by Cambell Fischer.  Madison tied the game early in the second quarter.  The Bulldogs completed an 18-yard pass and made the extra point for a 7-7 tie.  The tie was broken by the Trojans with 5:34 to play in the half.  Zirpel had a 33-yard touchdown run, and Fischer made another extra point.  West Central led 14-7 at halftime.

Madison then scored the next three touchdowns in the second half.  The Bulldogs pulled within a point, 14-13, on a 12-yard run with 9:06 to play.  They then took the lead on an interception returned for a touchdown with :46 to play in the third quarter.  Another missed extra point made the score 19-14.  Madison extended the lead on a two-yard touchdown run.  The Bulldogs led 25-14 with 9:11 to play in the game.

West Central got back into the end zone with 6:36 to play.  Zirpel had a 27-yard touchdown pass to Deuce Sherard.  Fischer made the extra point to cut the lead to 25-21.  The game-winning score came with 1:15 to play on a 23-yard touchdown pass from Zirpel to Mason Berens.  Fischer again made the extra point for the 28-25 win.

The Trojans had 324 yards of total offense, 142 rushing yards and 182 passing yards.  Madison finished with 289 yards of offense, 206 rushing yards and 83 passing yards.

Zirpel was 18-26 passing for 182 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.  Sherard had four catches for 55 yards and a touchdown.  Berens had three catches for 29 yards and a touchdown.  Owen Heath had two grabs for 53 yards.  Zirpel also finished with 15 carries for 111 yards and two touchdowns.  Aiden Bartmann had nine carries for 24 yards.

Dalton Mulder had 12 tackles in the game.  Chet Charda finished with eight tackles.  Heath had seven tackles, Xzavian Ferris finished with 6.5 tackles, and Wyatt Nielsen had five tackles.  Berens had three tackles and an interception.
