The Tri-Valley 17U baseball team played six games in three days at the Brookings Tournament held Friday, July 10th through Sunday, July 12th. They came home with four wins over the weekend.
Tri-Valley 9, Brookings Bullets 1
In the first game of the weekend, Tri-Valley scored two runs in the bottom of the first and four more in the bottom of the second for an early 6-0 lead. Each team picked up a run in the third inning. After a scoreless fourth inning, Tri-Valley added two more in the fifth in the win.
Lawson Schneiderman had two hits, one a triple, and two RBIs. Will Winter also had two hits. Parker Atwood added a triple with two RBIs. Patrick Tromblee had a single with an RBI. Gerrit Koopman had one hit. Atwood pitched five innings and allowed an unearned run on three hits and four walks with seven strikeouts.
Tri-Valley 11, Fargo Rockets 2
Two big innings helped Tri-Valley get the win over Fargo. They started the game with a four-run top of the first inning. Tri-Valley got one more run in the top of the fourth for a 5-0 lead. They would then have a six-run fifth inning to extend the lead to 11-0. Fargo scored their two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Aboot Moeller and Tromblee both had two hits and an RBI each. Reed Smith had a single and two RBIs. Koopman had a triple with an RBI. Evan Focken added a single and an RBI. Winter ended with a triple, and Schneiderman had a single. Winter pitched five innings and allowed two unearned runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts.
Tri-Valley 14, Brookings Bullets 2
The same teams faced each other on Saturday. Tri-Valley again defeated Brookings. They scored four times in the bottom of the first and then had a 10-run second inning for a 14-0 lead. Brookings scored two runs in the top of the third. The game ended on the 10-run rule after the top of the fourth inning.
Smith had two hits, one a double. Atwood finished with a double and an RBI. Focken added a single and an RBI. Schneiderman and Moeller both had an RBI.
Fargo Rockets 5, Tri-Valley 2
Fargo rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to get a come-from-behind win on Saturday. After a scoreless first inning, Fargo got a run in the bottom of the second for a 1-0 lead. Tri-Valley scored two times in the top of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. Fargo, however, scored four in the bottom of the sixth to take the win.
Tromblee had three hits in the game. Focken and Winter both had a single with an RBI. Koopman and Atwood each had a double. Focken pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed five runs, three earned, on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
Tri-Valley 7, Marshall Orange 1
A rally in the late innings gave Tri-Valley a win over Marshall on Sunday. Tri-Valley scored the first run of the game in the top of the second. Marshall tied the game, 1-1, with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Tri-Valley then scored two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and three more in the top of the seventh to pull away for a 7-1 win.
Dante Nehman and Focken each finished with two hits, each with a double, and each with an RBI. Tromblee had a single. Atwood, Schneiderman, and Smith all had one RBI each. Schneiderman pitched six innings and allowed an earned run on seven hits and four walks with four strikeouts.
Midwest Vandals 10, Tri-Valley 8
In the championship game of the tournament, Midwest Vandals took the win in a back-and-forth contest. Tri-Valley took a 2-0 lead with two runs in the top of the first. Midwest Vandals scored a run in the second and two more in the bottom of the third to go in front 3-2. Tri-Valley regained the lead 5-3 with three runs in the top of the fourth. Midwest Vandals also scored three times in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead, 6-5. Tri-Valley tied the game, 6-6, with another run in the top of the fifth. Midwest Vandals, however, scored three in the bottom of the fifth and one more in the sixth for a 10-6 lead. Tri-Valley scored two times in the top of the seventh, but the come-back rally fell short.
Moeller had three hits, including a triple and double, and two RBIs. Schneiderman had two hits with an RBI. Koopman and Focken each had two hits. Atwood had a triple with three RBIs. Nehman finished with a single and an RBI. Winter, Smith, and Tromblee all had one hit each.
