The Colton Yard Goat legion baseball team had their season come to an end in the Region 2B tournament on Thursday, July 22nd at Roken Field in Sioux Falls. The Yard Goats faced Dell Rapids in the semifinals and then had to play Sioux Falls Chargers in an elimination game.
Dell Rapids 7, Colton 4
In the semifinal game, Dell Rapids scored three times in the top of the seventh to advance to the championship game. Dell Rapids took the lead with a run in the top of the second. They pushed the lead to 3-0 with a two-run top of the fourth. Braxton Allen put Colton on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. Mason Hemme tied the game, 3-3, with a two-run home run. The Yard Goats took the lead on a Denton Bicknase RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Dell Rapids tied the game on an error in the top of the sixth. They then took the lead with three runs in the top of the seventh.
Bicknase had two hits and an RBI. Hemme finished with a home run and two RBIs. Allen added a single and an RBI. Brody Dybvig and Parker Hemme both had a single. Alex Wingen pitched six innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on three hits and four walks with nine strikeouts. Tristen Bunde tossed one inning and allowed three earned runs on three hits.
Sioux Falls Chargers 11, Colton 7
Colton’s season ended with a tough 11-7 loss to Sioux Falls Chargers in an elimination game. After a scoreless first inning, Colton put five runs on the board in the top of the second. Sioux Falls tied the game with a five-run bottom of the second. Sioux Falls then took the lead, 6-5, with a run in the bottom of the second. Colton tied the game with a run in the top of the fourth. Sioux Falls took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the bottom of the sixth for an 11-6 score. Colton added one more run in the top of the seventh.
Treyson Richter had three hits, one a double, with two RBIs. Wingen had a double and a single. P. Hemme had a double and an RBI. Bunde and Dybvig each had a single with an RBI. M. Hemme had a single, and Bicknase had an RBI.
