Fourth Place Finish at State for Tri-Valley 16U

The Tri-Valley 16U baseball team took fourth at the 2024 South Dakota VFW State A Tournament in Vermillion August 9th through 11th.

Tri-Valley 13, Flandreau 5

In the opening round on Friday, August 9th, Tri-Valley built an early lead on their way to the win over Flandreau.  After a scoreless first inning, Tri-Valley scored two runs in the top of the second and five more in the third for a 7-0 lead.  Flandreau got two runs in the bottom of the third for a 7-2 score.  Tri-Valley would add three more in the fifth and two in the sixth to go ahead 12-2.  Flandreau kept the game alive with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, 12-5.  Tri-Valley scored one more time in the seventh.

Mason Hemme finished with two doubles and five RBIs.  Brody Dybvig had two hits, including a double.  Treyson Richter had a double with two RBIs.  Tristen Bunde also had a double with an RBI.  Alex Wingen and Denton Bicknase both had a single and an RBI each.  Jackson Williams and Parker Hemme each had a double.  Kaiden Bernards had a single, and Parker Atwood finished with an RBI.

Madison 13, Tri-Valley 1

In the semifinal round, Tri-Valley scored in the top of the first on an RBI single by Bunde for a 1-0 lead.  It was all Madison from that point, however.  Madison scored three runs each in the first, second, and third innings for a 9-1 lead.  They scored four more in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 13-1.  The game ended on the 10-run rule after the top of the fifth inning.

Bunde finished with a single and an RBI.  Wingen and Dybvig each had a single as well.

West Central 3, Tri-Valley 2

In the 3rd/4th place game on Sunday, West Central grabbed an early lead.  They scored two runs in the bottom of the first and added another in the third for a 3-0 lead.  Tri-Valley got a run in the top of the fourth and another in the fifth to cut the lead to 3-2.  Tri-Valley got two runners on base in the top of the seventh, but were unable to get the tying run home.

Richter and P. Hemme both had two hits each.  M. Hemme and Gage Egger and one hit each.  Bunde finished with an RBI.  Bunde also pitched six innings and allowed three earned runs on nine hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
