Late Runs Give Padres Win over Tri-Valley Baseball

The Tri-Valley high school baseball team hosted the Mt Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney (MVPCS) Padres for their final regular season game on Friday, May 17th.  The Padres scored five times in the last two innings for a 9-6 come-from-behind win.

The two teams each scored three runs in the first two innings for a 3-3 tie.  The Padres went ahead 4-3 after getting a run in the top of the fourth.  Tri-Valley took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Carter Sorenson had an RBI single to tie the game 4-4.  Landon Schenkel put Tri-Valley in front 6-4 with a two-run single later in the inning.  The Padres, however, scored three times in the top of the sixth and then added two more in the seventh for the 9-6 win.

Alex Wingen finished with two hits.  Schenkel had a single and two RBIs.  Sorenson finished with a single and an RBI.  Everett Althoff added a double.  Nathan Madison, Cyrus Kirstein, and Cody Lofswold all had a single.  Hunter Foster added an RBI.  Sorenson pitched two innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Tristen Bunde pitched two innings and allowed an unearned run on a walk and one strikeout.  Schenkel pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing five runs, but just one earned, on two hits and four walks with five strikeouts.
