DELL RAPIDS — Dell Rapids leaned on a big first-quarter strike and a pair of Connor Jones field goals Thursday, October 22nd, to earn a 13-7 win in their regular season finale against the West Central Trojans.
The Quarriers got the scoring started early when Jace Brende broke loose for a 61-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Connor Jones added the extra point, and Dell Rapids had a 7-0 lead it would protect the rest of the night.
After the early touchdown, Dell Rapids kept the pressure on with long drives and strong field position, and Jones delivered twice with his leg. He knocked through a 24-yard field goal in the second quarter to make it 10-0, then added a 25-yard field goal in the third to push the lead to 13-0.
West Central made it a one-score game late in the third when Beckett Everson found Hayden Heier for a six-yard touchdown pass, and the Trojans’ extra point cut it to 13-7. From there, the Quarriers’ defense tightened up and finished the job, keeping West Central out of the end zone in the fourth to secure the six-point win.
