Two Wins for Mudcats to Open State Tournament

The Dell Rapids Mudcats have won their first two games of the 2026 South Dakota State B Amateur Baseball Tournament in Mitchell.  They beat Winner-Colome 11-3 on Saturday, August 8th and then defeated fellow Cornbelt League team, Humboldt/Hartford Gamecock, 7-2 on Tuesday, August 11th.

Mudcats 11, Winner-Colome 3

After two scoreless innings, Dell Rapids scored eight straight runs to help them cruise to the opening-round win.  The Mudcats scored two in the bottom of the third, one in the fourth, and five in the fifth for an 8-0 lead.  Winner-Colome picked up two runs in the top of the sixth.  Dell Rapids added three more in the bottom of the seventh to push the lead to 11-2.  Winner-Colome scored one more run in the top of the eighth.

Connor Hanson had three hits, including a triple, and four RBIs.  Treyse Eastman also had three hits with an RBI.  Landon Ruesink had a home run and two RBIs.  Kason Syverson had a solo home run.  Austin Henry added a single and an RBI.  Ty Hoglund and Josh Roemen both had a double.

Reece Arbogast pitched six innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Nolan Burchill tossed three innings allowing an earned run on three hits with two strikeouts.

Mudcats 7, Gamecocks 2

A string of runs in the middle innings helped the Mudcats defeat the Gamecocks and advance in the state tournament.  After three scoreless innings, Humboldt/Hartford took the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth.  Dell Rapids took the lead, 2-1, with two runs in the top of the fifth.  They added two more in the top of the sixth for a 4-1 lead.  The Gamecocks got another run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Mudcats scored three more in the top of the seventh.

Jake Goble had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Carter Gullickson had a triple and single with an RBI.  Henry had two singles with an RBI.  Hoglund also had a triple with two RBIs.  Ruesink, Billy Stitz, and Hanson all had a hit.

JD Prorock pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits with six strikeouts.  Henry pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up one hit and three walks with three strikeouts.
