The Dell Rapids Quarrier football team got back into the win column with a big 43-8 victory over the Rapid City Christian Comets in Rapid City on Friday, September 12th.
The Quarrier offense had a big second quarter after the two teams went scoreless in the first quarter. Just thirty seconds into the second quarter, Connor Jones had a two-yard touchdown run, and Ryan Stubbe added a two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead. Stubbe would find the end zone for a touchdown with 3:08 left in the half on a two-yard run for a 14-0 lead.
Special teams set up the next touchdown for Dell Rapids right before halftime. Rapid City Christian muffed a punt snap giving the Quarriers the ball on the Comet 14-yard line with 2:08 to go in the second quarter. Dell Rapids capitalized moments later. Devin Lodmell had a seven-yard touchdown run with 1:30 to play. Kirti Pickard made the extra point, and the Quarriers led 21-0 going into halftime.
The Comets tried to get some momentum back early in the third quarter. They scored on a 62-yard pass play and then made the two-point conversion to make the score 21-8 with 11:17 to play in the third quarter. Dell Rapids, however, would answer on their first drive of the second half. Stubbe scored again on a two-yard touchdown run and then also made the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 29-8. Drake Eastman and Lodmell would connect for a 60-yard touchdown pass later in the quarter. Pickard made the extra point pushing the lead to 36-8.
The final score of the game for Dell Rapids came with 8:18 to play. Jackson Peppel scored on a 24-yard run. Pickard again made the extra point for the 43-8 final score.
The Quarriers will have their first home game of the season on Friday, September 19th when they host the Milbank Bulldogs. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
