The Dell Rapids Jr Legion baseball team had their season come to an end in the Region 2B Tournament in Dell Rapids on Monday, July 28th. Dell Rapids hosted the three-team tournament that also included Madison and Volga.
Dell Rapids 8, Volga 3
The first game for Dell Rapids in the tournament was against Volga. Dell Rapids scored a run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Volga grabbed the lead in the bottom of the inning, 2-1, with two runs. Dell Rapids tied the game in the top of the second and then went ahead 5-2 with a three-run third inning. Volga got their last run of the game in the bottom of the third. Dell Rapids put three insurance runs on the board in the top of the eighth inning.
Jake Heinitz had three doubles and four RBIs. Jace Brende and Andrew Schoeberl both had two hits and an RBI each. Jackson Peppel ended with two singles. Gauge Bunkers had a double and an RBI. Thomas LaVoy also had a hit. Bunkers pitched seven innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts.
Madison 12, Dell Rapids 0
Madison scored in four of the five innings in their 12-0 win over Dell Rapids. They scored four runs in the top of the first inning, three in the second, two in the third, and three more in the fourth. Dell Rapids was held to just four hits in the game.
Caiden Borns had two of the four hits. Bunkers and Heinitz each had a single. Peppel pitched three innings and allowed nine runs, six earned, on eight hits and three walks with one strikeout. Rhett Thoreson pitched two innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on three hits and a walk with one strikeout.
