In the final game of the Cornbelt League regular season for both teams, Dell Rapids PBR defeated the Humboldt Gamecocks 9-4 in Dell Rapids on Thursday, July 17th.
After three scoreless innings to start the game, PBR broke through with a five-run bottom of the fourth. They would get two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 7-0. The Gamecocks put together a nice rally in the top of the sixth. They scored four times to cut the lead to 7-4. Dell Rapids, however, held the Gamecocks scoreless the rest of the game and added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings for the 9-4 final.
Conner Spindler had two hits, one a double, and an RBI. Chris Kropuenske also had two hits with an RBI. Zach Puetz ended with two hits. Riley Hoffman had a single and two RBIs. Tad Tjaden had a triple with an RBI. Grant Sweeter and Riley Calhoon both had a hit and an RBI each. Nate Nichols had a double.
Brett Mogen pitched six innings and allowed four earned runs on seven hits with four walks. Hoffman pitched two innings and had a walk and one strikeout. Drew Sweeter threw one inning and gave up one walk.
