The Dell Rapids Mudcats earned a split of their last two games. They defeated the Flandreau Blue Teal on Sunday, July 6th but fell to Madison on Tuesday, July 8th.
Mudcats 7, Blue Teal 2
Dell Rapids waited until the final two innings, but they rallied for a 7-2 win over the Flandreau Blue Teal. Flandreau scored two times in the top of the first inning. The score remained 2-0 until the bottom of the fifth. Ty Hoglund drove home a pair of runs with a single to tie the game 2-2. The Mudcats used that momentum to score five times in the bottom of the sixth to get the come-from-behind win.
Hoglund finished with two hits and three RBIs. Reece Arbogast also had two hits. Chad Hunt had a single and an RBI. Austin Henry and Josh Roeman both had a double. Sutton Williams added an RBI. Arbogast pitched three innings and allowed two unearned runs on a hit and walk with four strikeouts. Henry pitched four innings and stuck out nine batters.
Madison 6, Mudcats 3
Madison Dairy Queen rallied for six straight runs to get a 6-3 win over the Mudcats. Dell Rapids took the lead in the bottom of the first with a run. They scored two more times in the bottom of the third for a 3-0 lead. Madison chipped away at the lead. Dairy Queen scored a run in the top of the fourth and another in the top of the sixth to make the score 3-2. They took the lead, 5-3, with three runs in the top of the eighth and then added an insurance run in the ninth.
Arbogast had two hits and an RBI. Thomas Schuring added a double. Hoglund, Carter Gullickson, and Nolan Burchill all had one hit each. Burchill pitched six innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. Treyse Eastman pitched three innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on three hits and three walks with a strikeout.
