The Dell Rapids Phils won both games against Elk Point on Saturday, June 28th to improve to 9-2 on the season.
Dell Rapids 9, Elk Point 0
The Phils blew the game open in the later innings in a 9-0 win in the first game. Dell Rapids scored two in the top of the first, but the score remained 2-0 until the sixth inning. The Phils then scored six times in the top of the sixth and added one more in the seventh.
Tad Tjaden held Elk Point to just one hit in seven innings while walking four and striking out 19 batters. Tjaden also had three hits, one a double, and four RBIs. Connor Hanson had four hits. Jackson Peppel had three hits, including a double, and an RBI. Cole Ruesink ended with two doubles. Kenny Swanson added two singles. Talan Millage had a double with three RBIs, and Drake Eastman had a hit and an RBI.
Dell Rapids 20, Elk Point 6
The Phils put the game away late again in the second game. Dell Rapids scored six times in the top of the first inning for an early 6-0 lead. Elk Point scored three times in the bottom of the second and one more in the third to make the score 6-4. Dell Rapids added five runs in the top of the fourth. Elk Point scored one in the bottom of the inning, and Dell Rapids led 11-5 after four innings. The Phils then scored a run in the sixth and eight more in the top of the seventh. Elk Point plated one run in the bottom of the seventh.
Swanson had the big bat in the second game. He had a home run and triple with three RBIs. Tjaden had five singles and two RBIs. Hanson added four more hits with two RBIs. Peppel had three hits and three RBIs. Eastman also had three hits, including a double. Gauge Bunkers had two hits and two RBIs. Lincoln Fersdahl had a double and two RBIs, and Millage had a single. Ruesink had an RBI.
