The Dell Rapids Phils won their opening game of region play on Tuesday, July 21st at Ronken Field at Augustana University in Sioux Falls. Dell Rapids defeated the Sioux Falls Chargers 5-1.
Neither team could break through over the first five innings. Kenny Swanson scored on an error in the top of the sixth to give Dell Rapids a 1-0 lead. Sioux Falls tied the game, 1-1, after scoring on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth.
With the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, Tommy LaVoy drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Phils back in front, 2-1. AJ Brandenburg drove home two with a single to extend the lead to 4-1. Gauge Bunkers added an RBI single later in the inning to make the score 5-1.
Swanson had two hits, both of them doubles. Brandenburg had a single with two RBIs. Bunkers added a hit and an RBI. Caiden Borns and Jake Heinitz each had a double. Ryan Brandenburg added a single. Charlie Bollock pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed an unearned run on five walks with six strikeouts. Owen Bollock pitched two innings and gave up two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
