Dell Rapids PBR earned a split in a double-header with the Canova Gang on Sunday, June 22nd. PBR won the first game, but the Gang took the second game.
PBR 7, Canova 3
The Gang took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first, but PBR scored two in the bottom of the second and two more in the third for a 4-1 lead. Canova got another run in the top of the fifth, but PBR added to their lead with three more runs in the bottom of the inning for a 7-2 score. The Gang added one last run in the top of the sixth.
Drew Sweeter finished with two hits, one a double, and three RBIs. Connor Spindler also had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Riley Hoffman had two singles. Trey Randel and Tanner Solberg both had a hit with an RBI. Weston Hansen and Brayden Pankonen each had a single. Brett Mogen pitched four innings and allowed an unearned run on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Randel pitched three innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts.
Canova 3, PBR 2
The Gang scored two times in the bottom of the seventh to earn a 3-2 come-from-behind win in the second game. Riley Calhoon scored on an error in the top of the third to give PBR a 1-0 lead. Hansen had an RBI groundout in the top of the sixth making the score 2-0. Canova got a run back in the bottom of the sixth. The Gang then scored their two runs in the bottom of the seventh without an out for the win.
Pankonen had two hits. Calhoon finished with a double. Sweeter, Zach Puetz, and Spindler all had one hit each. Hansen finished with an RBI. Pankonen pitched four innings and give up one hit and three walks with three strikeouts. Sweeter pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks.
