The Dell Rapids Jr Legion played two games over the past weekend, one on Friday, June 20th and another on Sunday, June 22nd. The team earned a split in those two games, getting a win over Flandreau on Friday and falling to Garretson on Sunday.
Dell Rapids 13, Flandreau 11
In an offensive battle, Dell Rapids was able to come-from-behind and then hold off Flandreau to earn the victory. Flandreau scored the first five runs of the game. They got four in the first and one in the top of the second. Dell Rapids tied the game, 5-5, with five runs in the bottom of the second inning. Flandreau went back on top, 7-5, with a couple of runs in the third. Dell Rapids took their first lead, 8-7, with three runs in the bottom of the third. After holding Flandreau scoreless in the top of the fourth, Dell Rapids added two runs in the bottom of the inning for a 10-7 lead. Flandreau would tie the game, 10-10, with three runs in the fifth. Dell Rapids responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to go back in front 13-10. Flandreau was only able to get one run in the top of the sixth as Dell Rapids held for the win.
Gauge Bunkers had two doubles and two RBIs. Jake Heinitz also had two hits, one a double, with two RBIs. Caiden Borns, Rhett Thoreson, and Knox Cuny all had two hits and one RBI each. Andrew Schoeberl also had two hits, one of them a double. Eli Gullickson finished with a single and two RBIs, and Thomas LaVoy had a hit with an RBI. Jace Brende also had an RBI.
Garretson 15, Dell Rapids 8
Garretson scored the first nine runs of the game to help them to the win. They got six runs right away in the bottom of the first and three more in the second for the 9-0 lead. Each team scored a run in the third inning. Dell Rapids put together a small rally in the middle innings. They had a run in the fourth and four more in the fifth to make the score 10-6. Garretson, however, padded their lead with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 15-6. Dell Rapids added two more runs in the seventh inning.
Schoeberl had three hits, one a double, and an RBI. Jackson Peppel had two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs. Cuny also had two hits. Brende added a home run and two RBIs. Borns had a single with an RBI. Heinitz, LaVoy, and Thoreson all had one hit each.
