The Dell Rapids high school baseball team played three games in two days at the Sanford Sports Complex in Sioux Falls on Friday, April 11th and Saturday, April 12th. Dell Rapids lost all three of the games to Sheyenne Mustangs, Red River Riders, and Fargo North Spartans.
Sheyenne 4, Dell Rapids 3
In the first game on Friday, Sheyenne scored just enough runs in the top of the seventh and held for the close win. Neither team scored in the first two innings. Sheyenne broke the tie with a run in the top of the third. Dell Rapids tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Sheyenne went back in front with a run in the top of the fifth. They added two more runs in the top of the seventh for a 4-1 lead. Dell Rapids plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run on second base, but the rally fell short.
Cole Ruesink and Talan Millage had the only two hits in the game. Drake Eastman pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits and five walks with nine strikeouts. Lincoln Fersdahl pitched two innings and allowed two earned runs on a hit and three walks with three strikeouts.
Red River 13, Dell Rapids 2
Red River used a big third inning on their way to the 13-2 victory. Dell Rapids scored two runs in the bottom of the first for an early 2-0 lead. Red River got a run in the top of the second, but then exploded for 10 runs in the top of the third inning. They would ad two more in the fifth.
Jackson Peppel had a single with an RBI. Ruesink, Tad Tjaden, and Cooper Frost all had a single. Ryan Stubbe pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Peppel allowed an earned run on three walks. Ruesink pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed seven earned runs on three hits and three walks with one strikeout. Tjaden pitched two innings allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
Fargo North 5, Dell Rapids 3
Fargo North used a four-run top of the first to help them to a win. Dell Rapids scored a run in the bottom of the second to make the score 4-1. Farger North would get their fifth run in the top of the third inning. Dell Rapids did score a single run in both the fourth and sixth innings.
Peppel finished with a single and two RBIs. Frost and Eastman each had a single. Quinn Carr pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed four earned runs on two hits and two walks. Connor Hanson pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed an unearned run on two hits and four walks with five strikeouts.
