The Dell Rapids high school baseball team put 18 runs on the board while taking advantage of seven Garretson errors on Tuesday, April 8th. Dell Rapids defeated Garretson 18-8.
Each team scored a run in the first inning for a 1-1 tie. Dell Rapids then scored seven straight runs. They had a run in the second, two in the third, and four in the top of the fourth for an 8-1 lead. Garretson got one run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 8-2. Dell Rapids would add four more in the fifth extending their lead to 12-2. Garretson avoided the 10-run rule with one run in the bottom of the fifth. Dell Rapids got that run back in the six for a 13-3 score. Again Garretson avoided the game ending early on the 10-run rule by scoring five times in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead in half, 13-8. Dell Rapids put the game away in the top of the seventh by scoring five runs themselves.
Tad Tjaden had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Cole Ruesink ended with two hits and an RBI. Lincoln Fersdahl had a home run and three RBIs. Cooper Frost added a double and three RBIs. Drake Eastman also had a double with two RBIs. Ryan Brandenburg had a single and two RBIs. Carson Maeschen also had an RBI.
Ryan Brandenburg pitched five innings and allowed six runs, three earned, on six hits and two walks with a strikeout. Jackson Ahlers allowed two earned runs on a hit and two walks. Jackson Peppel pitched two innings and allowed a hit and three walks with three strikeouts.
