Phils Suffer First Loss in State Tournament

A three-run top of the seventh helped Elk Point-Jefferson to a 6-3 win over the Dell Rapids Phils at the state legion tournament on Sunday, August 4th.  This was the first loss for Dell Rapids.

CJ Smith had an RBI single in the bottom of the first to put Dell Rapids in front 1-0.  The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fourth.  Elk Point-Jefferson tied the game with a run in the top of the fourth.  Treyse Eastman put Dell Rapids back in front, 2-1, with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.

Elk Point-Jefferson tied the game, 2-2, with a run in the top of the fifth.  They took the lead in the top of the sixth, 3-2, with another run.  T. Eastman tied the game, 3-3, with another RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.  Elk Point-Jefferson, however, scored three times in the top of the seventh and then held Dell Rapids in the bottom of the inning for the win.

T. Eastman had two hits and two RBIs.  Smith also had two hits with one RBI.  Cole Ruesink, Sutton Williams, Talan Millage, and Cooper Frost all had one hit each.  Licoln Fersdahl pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits and five walks with four strikeouts.  Konrad Richeal pitched two innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on two hits and seven walks with two strikeouts.  Will Zwach pitched 1/3 of an inning.

Dell Rapids will play Parkston in an elimination game on Monday, August 5th at 4:00 p.m.
