The Dell Rapids Phils defeated the host team, Salem/Montrose/Canova, in the quarterfinal round of the state legion tournament 8-3 on Saturday, August 3rd.
Salem/Montrose/Canova built a 2-0 lead right away in the top of the first inning. The Phils cut the lead in half, 2-1, with a run in the bottom of the second. Dell Rapids took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the third. Salem/Montrose/Canova cut the lead to 5-3 with a run in the top of the sixth. The Phils put the game away with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Drake Eastman had four hits, including a double, and an RBI. Cole Ruesink had two hits with two RBIs. CJ Smith and Cooper Frost both added a single and RBI. Sutton Williams also had a single. D. Eastman pitched seven innings and allowed three runs, all unearned, on three hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
