One Big Inning Sinks PBR

One big inning for the Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks was enough for them to defeat Dell Rapids PBR at the District 4B tournament in Canova on Friday, August 2nd.  The Gamecocks took the win 9-3 to send them to the state tournament.

The first four innings went scoreless.  The Gamecocks then had a seven-run bottom of the fifth for a 7-0 lead.  PBR got two runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh to cut the lead to 7-3.  The Gamecocks added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Zach Puetz had a home run and two RBIs.  Riley Calhoon, Conner Spindler, Riley Hoffman, and Brayden Pankonen all had one single each.  Drew Sweeter had an RBI.  Grant Sweeter took the loss on the mound pitching 4 1/3 innings allowing seven runs, six earned, on five hits and three walks.  Trey Randel pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

PBR will have one more chance to qualify for the state tournament.  They will play Colman on Saturday, August 3rd in the “Last Chance” game.
