Dell Rapids PBR won and lost a game in their final two contests of the regular season. They earned a win over the Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks on Thursday, July 18th but dropped a game in Canova on Sunday, July 21st.
Dell Rapids PBR 12, Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks 2
PBR took a 5-0 lead with a run in the second and four in the bottom of the third. The Wood Ducks cut the lead to 5-2 with two runs in the top of the sixth. PBR scored one run in the sixth making the score 6-2, and then scored three runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to put the game away.
Drew Sweeter and Nate McKee each had two singles and two RBIs. Riley Hoffman and Matt Gillogly both had two hits and one RBI each. Grant Sweeter also had a hit and an RBI. Trey Randel pitched seven innings to earn the win allowing two runs, both unearned, on six hits and three walks with 12 strikeouts.
Canova 4, Dell Rapids 3
After PBR tied the game in the top of the ninth, Canova got an RBI double in the bottom of the inning to get a 4-3 walk-off win. PBR scored first with a run in the top of the first inning. Canova tied the game in the bottom of the second and then took the lead 2-1 with a run in the third. They extended the lead to 3-1 with another run in the fifth. Tim Wilhelmsen hit a two-out, two-run single in the ninth to tie the game 3-3 before the Canova rally in the bottom of the ninth.
Wilhelmsen had a single and two RBIs. Zach Puetz added a hit and an RBI. McKee added a double. Riley Calhoon, Weston Hansen, Gillogly, Hoffman, D. Sweeter, and Beau Behrend all had one single each.
