An early lead helped Dell Rapids 16U to their third straight win in a 12-7 victory over Flandreau on Wednesday, July 17th.
Dell Rapids jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead with four runs in the top of the first. They added three more in the second to extend the lead to 7-0. Another run was scored in the top of the fourth to give Dell Rapids their largest lead of the night, 8-0. Flandreau cut the lead in half with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Dell Rapids got one of those runs back in the top of the sixth, making the score 9-4. Dell Rapids matched their largest lead of eight runs by scoring three in the top of the seventh for a 12-4 score. Flandreau added three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.
Carson Maeschen had three hits, including a triple, and three RBIs. Gauge Bunkers added two singles and an RBI. Ryan Stubbe, Jackson Peppel, and Jake Heinitz all had one hit each. Stubbe pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on a hit and eight walks with four strikeouts. Bunkers pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed five runs, two earned, on six hits and four walks with two strikeouts.
