Elkton scored four runs in their final two at-bats to take a 7-6 win over Dell Rapids 16U on Wednesday, July 10th.
Both teams scored two runs right away in the opening inning. Dell Rapids added another run in the top of the second for a 3-2 lead. Elkton tied the game, 3-3, an inning later with a run in the bottom of the third. After a scoreless fourth inning, Dell Rapids scored three times in the top of the fifth for a 6-3 lead. Elkton got two runs back in the bottom of the inning, but then scored two more in the bottom of the sixth to go in front 7-6. Dell Rapids got a two-out double in the top of the seventh, but could not get the tying run home.
Connor Hanson had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Carson Maeschen had a double and an RBI. Jake Heinitz finished with a single and an RBI. Kenny Swanson added an RBI. Hanson pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed five runs, two earned, on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts. Gauge Bunkers pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on a hit with one strikeout.
