The Dell Rapids 16U baseball team hosted Baltic oon Wednesday, June 19th and won a slugfest 18-13.
Dell Rapids put two runs on the board for an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Baltic responded with three in the bottom of the first for a 3-2 lead. Dell Rapids got the lead back with three runs in the second. They extended the lead to 8-3 with a three-run third inning. Baltic, however, regained the lead 10-8 after scoring seven times in the bottom of the third.
Each team scored a run in the fourth, and after four innings of play, Baltic led 11-9. Dell Rapids tied the game 11-11 with two runs in the top of the fifth. Baltic went back in front with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, 13-11. Dell Rapids delivered the big blow with a seven-run top of the seventh to get the victory.
Connor Hanson had three hits and three RBIs in the game. Jackson Peppel and Luke Symens both had two singles and two RBIs each. Gage Bunkers had two hits, one a double, and an RBI. Kenny Swanson also had two hits, including a double. Jake Heinitz finished with three RBIs, and Kaiden Zellmer and Ryan Stubbe both had an RBI.
Hanson pitched three innings and allowed two unearned runs on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Stubbe threw two innings and allowed six runs, three earned, on a hit and three walks with four strikeouts. Bunkers pitched two innings and allowed five earned runs on eight hits and a walk.
