The Dell Rapids high school baseball team played a double header against Class A Brandon Valley on Monday, May 13th. Dell Rapids won both games by scores of 8-6 and 10-7
Dell Rapids 8, Brandon Valley 6
The first game needed extra innings, going nine, before Dell Rapids earned the victory. The visiting Dell Rapids team scored four times in the top of the first. Brandon Valley scored two times in the bottom of the second and then took the lead 5-4 with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Dell Rapids regained the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. Brandon Valley tied the game 6-6 with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Cole Ruesink broke the 6-6 tie in the top of the ninth with a two-out, two-run home run to left field.
Talan Millage had two hits and two RBIs. Drake Eastman had two singles. Ruesink had a home run and two RBIs. Jack Henry had a home run and an RBI. Mason Stubbe added a double, and Treyse Eastman had a single. Millage pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on eight hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Quinn Carr pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on three walks and two strikeouts. Tad Tjaden pitched one inning and allowed one walk and had two strikeouts.
Dell Rapids 10, Brandon Valley 7
A big third and fourth inning for Dell Rapids helped them to a win in the second game of the double header. After a scoreless first inning, both teams scored a run in the second for a 1-1 tie. Dell Rapids scored four times in the top of the third. Brandon Valley got one run back to make the score 5-2. Dell Rapids added another three runs in the top of the fourth to extend their lead to 8-2. Brandon Valley had a four-run bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 8-6. Dell Rapids added a single run in the fifth and sixth innings, while Brandon Valley scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth.
Lincoln Fersdahl and Tjaden both had two hits and an RBI each. Stubbe, Sutton Williams, and D. Eastman all had a single and an RBI. Henry and Millage both had one hit each. Ruesink added an RBI. D. Eastman pitched four innings and allowed six runs, five earned, on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Konrad Richeal pitched two innings walking one and striking out five. Fersdahl pitched one inning and allowed an earned run on a hit and three walks.
