Quarrier Boys Survive for Win Against Canton

The Dell Rapids Quarrier boys nearly lost a big lead on Thursday, January 4th in Canton.  The C-Hawks trimmed an 18-point fourth quarter deficit down to a point, but the Quarriers held for a 65-61 win.

After Canton started the game on a 5-0 run, Dell Rapids responded with an 8-0 run and then ended the first quarter with a 14-9 lead.  The Quarriers extended the lead to double digits, 34-24, by halftime.  Dell Rapids then came out of halftime with an 11-0 run and led 45-24.  The Quarriers ended the first quarter with a 52-34 lead.  Canton then chipped away at the lead with strong defensive pressure and cut the lead to 62-61 with :27 to play in the game.  On the next Dell Rapids possession, Jack Henry drove to the basket and made a layup while being fouled.  Henry made the free throw to extend the lead 65-61 with :13 to go to help secure the win.

Dell Rapids shot 55% (26-47) from the field overall, 2-6 from three-point area, and 69% (11-16) from the free-throw line.  Canton finished the game shooting 37% (23-63) overall, 19% (5-27) on three-point attempts, and 42% (8-19) from the free-throw line.

Henry finished with 29 points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists.  Tad Tjaden had 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists.  Cole Ruesink added nine points, five rebounds, and three assists.  Rhett Kloth had seven points, eight rebounds, three blocked shots, and two assists.
