The Dell Rapids 16U baseball team took first place in the I-29 League Tournament after a 10-0 win over Baltic in Humboldt on Sunday, June 18th.
Dell Rapids exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. Lincoln Fersdahl had an RBI triple. Brrandon Schmidt had an RBI double. Matt Nelson followed with an RBI single. Logan Donovan added an RBI double in the inning. Cooper Frost had an RBI single. Cole Ruesink followed that with an RBI single of his own, and Connor Hanson stole home for the seventh run of the inning.
The score remained 7-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning. Ruesink scored on a steal of home, Drake Eastman scored on an error, and Quinn Carr had an RBI sacrifice fly to make the score 10-0. The game ended on the 10-run rule after Baltic’s three batters were retired in order in the top of the fifth.
Ruesink finished with three hits and an RBI. Donovan had two hits, one a double, and an RBI. Eastman also had two hits, including a double. Fersdahl finished with a triple and an RBI. Schmidt and Nelson each had a double and RBI. Frost added a single and an RBI. Talan Millage and Carson Crosby each had a hit. Carr had an RBI. Millage pitched all five innings allowing just five hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
