The Dell Rapids Phils legion baseball team picked up two wins in three games at the Clark Tournament held Thursday, July 9th through Saturday, July 11th.
Dell Rapids 5, Groton 4
The Phils rallied for a walk-off win against Groton on Thursday. Groton scored three runs in the top of the second for a 3-0 lead. Dell Rapids got one run back in the bottom of the inning. The Phils tied the game, 3-3, with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Groton got the lead back in the top of the sixth with a run. With one out and runners on second and third, Kenny Swanson drove home both runners with a single to win the game.
Swanson finished with two hits and two RBIs. Cutler Erickson also had two hits and two RBIs. AJ Brandenburg had two hits, one a double, with an RBI. Connor Hnaons and Haiden Kaffar both had two singles each. Gauge Bunkers also had a hit.
Dell Rapids 9, Lidgerwood/Hankinson 0
The Phils scored in every inning as they cruised to a 9-0 win on Friday. They scored single runs in the first four innings to take a 4-0 lead. The big blow game in the top of the fifth with the Phils scored five times to put the game away.
Jake Heinitz had two hits and two RBIs. Swanson had two doubles with an RBI. Hanson added two singles and an RBI. Bunkers had two hits, one a double. Caiden Borns also had two hits. Brandenburg finished with a single and an RBI. Owen Bollock had a hit. Kaffar and Eli Gullickson both had one RBI. Hanson pitched five innings and allowed two hits and four walks with eight strikeouts.
Devils Lake Storm 8, Dell Rapids 2
In their third game of the tournament, Dell Rapids put two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Devils Lake got one run back in the bottom of the inning. They would tie the game, 2-2, with another run in the bottom of the third. Devils Lake then went on a run and scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the fifth for the 8-2 score.
Hanson had two hits, one of them a double. Brandenburg and Bunkers each had a single. Swanson and Heinitz each had an RBI.
