The Dell Rapids Quarrier boys were able to pull away in the middle quarters in an 83-62 road win over the Mt Vernon/Plankinton Titans on Tuesday, January 27th.
The Quarriers erupted for 25 points in the opening quarter and built a 25-15 lead at the break. The Titans, however, responded with an 11-0 run to start the second quarter to take a 26-25 lead with 6:15 in the half. A timeout by Dell Rapids got the team going. Dell Rapids finished the quarter outscoring the Titans 14-7 to regain the lead 39-33 at halftime.
That momentum carried over into the second half. Dell Rapids would slowly pull away in the third quarter. They held a 24-13 scoring advantage to take a 63-46 lead into the fourth quarter. The Quarriers would add another 20-point quarter in the fourth quarter.
Dell Rapids shot 58% (37-64) overall in the game, 42% (5-12) on three-point shots, but just 4-11 from the free-throw line. Mt Vernon/Plankinton shot 39% (19-49) from the field, 24% (5-21) from three-point area, and 70% (19-27) from the free-throw line.
Camden Jones led the Quarriers with 23 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Lincoln Anderson had 18 points. Jackson Peppel added 15 points and five rebounds. Hudson Wolff had 10 points. Jace Brende had six points, and Karson Paye ended with five points, five rebounds, and eight assists.
