The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls hosted the Canton C-Hawks on Thursday, January 9th. In a back and forth battle, the C-Hawks pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 63-51 win.
Canton opened the game with a 5-0 run and still led by six points, 10-4, with 5:40 to go. Dell Rapids went on a 9-0 run to take the lead 13-10 with 3:45 left in the quarter. Canton responded with a 6-0 run to regain the lead 16-13. The two teams went back and forth the rest of the quarter, and Canton held a 20-19 lead at the end of it. The offenses cooled a bit in the second quarter. Dell Rapids led 28-24 with 2:30 to play in the half and then 31-27 with 1:15. The C-Hawks went on a 9-2 run to end the quarter for a 36-33 lead at halftime.
Canton continued their run to start the third quarter. They went on a 6-0 run to go in front 42-33 with 6:00 to play in the quarter. The Quarriers recovered and went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to a point, 42-41, with 3:15 to go. Dell Rapids was still within a point, 44-43, with 1:15 left. Canton got the final three points to lead 47-43 going into the fourth quarter. The C-Hawks again went on a run to start the fourth quarter. They extended their lead to 52-43 with 4:45 left in the game. They grew the lead to 56-44 at the 3:30 mark. Dell Rapids was only within eight points the rest of the game.
The Quarriers shot 32% (19-60) overall, 30% (6-20) from three-point area, and 54% (7-13) from the free-throw line. Canton finished the game shooting 42% (27-64) overall, 33% (6-18) on three-point shots, and 3-8 from the free-throw line.
Three players finished in double figures. Rorie Thoreson had 17 points and five steals. Jersi Schultz had 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Clara Justice also had 13 points and five rebounds. Taylor Schmidt added four points and four rebounds. Elly Olson had six rebounds and five assists. Elin Schoenhard had two points and six rebounds.
