The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls held an advantage in all facets of the game against the McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars on Tuesday, January 7th. The Quarriers won their second straight game with a 55-38 win over the Cougars in Montrose.
Dell Rapids led 4-2 with 3:30 to play in the opening quarter and then finished the quarter on an 8-0 run for a 12-4 lead. The Quarrier defensive pressure caused problems for the Cougars all night. Dell Rapids held McCook Central/Montrose to just five second-quarter points while extended their lead to 23-9 by halftime.
The pressure continued in the third quarter. The Quarriers kept building on their lead and went into the fourth quarter leading 41-19. The Cougars made some noise in the fourth quarter. They cut the lead to 14, 49-35, with 3:20 left in the game. Dell Rapids, however, closed the door and finished the win on a 6-3 advantage.
The Quarriers shot 41% (24-59) from the field overall, 1-15 on three-point attempts, and 6-8 from the free-throw line. The Cougars shot 23% (11-47) overall, 0-12 on three-point shots, and 62% (16-26) from the free-throw line. Dell Rapids had a 35-27 rebounding advantage and forced 22 turnovers, 14 on steals.
Rorie Thoreson had 15 points, two rebounds, and five assists. Elly Olson had 12 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and three assists. Josie Price added eight points and six rebounds. Elin Shoenhard also had eight points with two rebounds. Jersi Schultz had four points and 10 rebounds. Clara Justice ended with four points and four rebounds. Mya DeStigter also had four points with three steals.
