Quarriers Win Third Straight Game

The Dell Rapids Quarriers football team had their first road game of the 2024 season on Friday, September 20th.  The Quarriers traveled to Milbank and brought home a 42-7 win against the Bulldogs, their third straight victory.

The offense took advantage of a couple of turnovers as well as big defensive stops in the first half.  Kenny Swanson scored the first touchdown on a nine-yard run with 8:01 to play in the first quarter for a 6-0 lead.  Quinn Carr found the end zone on a one-yard run, and then made the two-point conversion, with 3:55 to go to make the score 14-0.  Cole Ruesink scored on a 63-yard touchdown run with 1:29 left in the first quarter, Cooper Frost made the extra point, and Dell Rapids led 21-0 after the first quarter.

Frost delivered two touchdown passes in the second quarter.  He connected with Tad Tjaden on a 49-yard touchdown pass with 6:53 to go in the half.  Frost then had a touchdown pass to Drake Eastman of 21 yards.  Dell Rapids converted a two-point conversion and extra point on those two scores, and the Quarriers led 36-0 at halftime.

With at least a 35-point lead at halftime, the second half had a running clock.  Neither team would score in the third quarter.  Cooper Cuny got a 10-yard touchdown run with 1:04 left in the game to extend the lead to 42-0.  Milbank would score on an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on the ensuing kickoff for their lone touchdown of the game.

Dell Rapids finished with 398 yards of offense, 104 passing yards and 294 rushing yards.  The Quarrier defense held Milbank to just 60 yards of offense, 46 passing yards and 14 rushing yards while forcing three turnovers.

Ruesink had six carries for 172 yards and a touchdown.  Swanson, Carr and Cuny all had rushing touchdowns in the game.  Frost finished 5-10 passing for 104 yards and two touchdowns.  Tjaden had three catches for 66 yards and a score.  Eastman had a catch for 21 yards and a touchdown.  Will Ronshaugren had a catch for 17 yards.

Swanson finished with 5.5 tackles on defense.  Ryan Stubbe had four tackles.  Carson Maeschen finished with 3.5 tackles.  Brandon Schmidt added three tackles.  Ruesink had 2.5 tackles and two interceptions.  Lucas Keener also had an interception.
