The Dell Rapids Quarriers won their homecoming game in their third straight home contest to start the season on Friday, September 13th. The Quarriers defeated the Rapid City Christian Comets 40-24.
Cole Ruesink put Dell Rapids ahead 6-0 after a four-yard touchdown run with 5:58 to go in the opening quarter. The Comets tied the game on a 31-yard touchdown pass with 2:43 remaining. The first quarter ended with a 6-6 tie. Ryan Stubbe broke the tie with a four-yard run with 8:49 left in the half. Cooper Frost connected with Drake Eastman on an 81-yard touchdown pass with 3:47 in the second quarter. Both extra points were made, and Dell Rapids led 20-6 going into halftime.
The Quarrier offense added another touchdown with 5:41 to play in the third quarter. Eastman had a two-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 26-6. Ruesink got a defensive touchdown moments later. He had a 57-yard interception return for a touchdown giving Dell Rapids a 33-6 lead. The Comets scored with 1:51 remaining in the third on a 12-yard touchdown pass. Kenny Swanson put the game away after a six-yard touchdown run with 6:21 to go in the game that gave Dell Rapids a 40-12 lead. The Comets scored two late touchdowns to end the game.
Dell Rapids had 436 yards of total offense, 124 passing yards and 312 rushing yards. Rapid City Christian had 308 yards of total offense, 320 passing yards, but -12 rushing yards. Ruesink had 20 carries for 130 yards and a touchdown. Stubbe added 10 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown. Quinn Carr had six attempts for 39 yards. Swanson and Eastman both had a rushing touchdown. Frost was 5-5 passing for 124 yards and a touchdown. Eastman had three catches for 108 yards and a touchdown. Tad Tjaden finished with two catches for 16 yards.
Jackson Peppel had four takckles in the game. Eastman finished with three tackles. Will Ronshaugen had three tackles and a fumble recovery. Carr had 3.5 tackles with two sacks. Ruesink had an interception and a tackle.
