The Dell Rapids Quarrier defense was the story of the game against the Tri-Valley Mustangs on Friday, September 27th in a 44-6 victory. The offense was put points on the board all game long, but the Dell Rapids defense allowed just six yards of total offense to the Mustangs.
Cole Ruesink had a fumble recovery in the endzone for a touchdown after the Quarriers fumbled the ball in the first quarter to give Dell Rapids a 6-0 lead. In the second quarter, Cooper Frost threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Stubbe. A made two-point conversion made the score 14-0. Ruesink got a three-yard touchdown run later in the quarter to extend the lead to 21-0. The Mustangs lone touchdown came on an 85-yard punt return. Frost would add a 27-yard field goal before halftime to make the score 24-6.
Ruesink had two more rushing touchdowns in the third quarter. The first one was three yards and the second touchdown was 54 yards. Frost made an extra point, and the Quarriers led 37-6 going into the fourth quarter. Jackson Peppel had a six-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Kirti Pickard added the extra point.
The Quarriers 369 yards of total offense, 70 passing yards and 289 passing yards. Tri-Valley’s six yards of offense came from 22 passing yards, but -16 rushing yards. Ruesink had 13 carries for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Quinn Carr added seven carries for 38 yards. Frost was 5-12 passing for 70 yards and a touchdown. Ruesink had two catches for 46 yards, and Tad Tjaden had two catches for 19 yards. Kenny Swanson had six tackles. Stubbe had 4.5 tackles and an interception.
