Dell Rapids PBR earned a 16-6 win over Madison in an opening round game of the District 4B Tournament in Canova on Saturday, July 27th.
PBR broke a 2-2 tie after two innings with a four-run top of the third. That rally kept them in front the rest of the game. Madison scored one run in the bottom of the third to make the score 6-3. PBR added two more runs in the top of the fifth, while Madison scored one in the bottom of the inning for an 8-4 score.
Dell Rapids continued to remain hot offensively as they scored two more times in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 10-4. Madison got one run back in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead in half, 10-5. PBR added two more runs in the top of the eighth and another four in the top of the ninth. Madison’s last run came in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Riley Hoffman finished with three hits, two of them doubles, and four RBIs. Weston Hansen had three doubles and an RBI. Drew Sweeter had two hits, one a home run, and four RBIs. Matt Gillogly also had two hits, including a home run, with three RBIs. Conner Spindler finished with two hits, one a double, and an RBI. Zach Puetz and Brayden Pankonen both had two hits and an RBI each. Riley Calhoon added an RBI.
