Dell Rapids Baseball Wins Two Non-State Games

The Dell Rapids high school baseball teams played two teams from North Dakota in Sioux Falls on Friday, April 12.  They won both games, one against Fargo South and one over Red River, Grand Forks.

Dell Rapids 7, Fargo South 5

Dell Rapids was able to outlast Fargo South by scoring in four of the first five innings.  Treyse Eastman had an RBI double, and Drake Eastman drew a bases-loaded walk for the first two runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Fargo South got one run back in the top of the second.  They would take a 3-2 lead in the top of the third after scoring two runs.  Dell Rapids regained the lead after an RBI triple by Sutton Williams.  Williams then scored on a passed ball for a 4-3 advantage.  Jack Henry and Mason Stubbe both stole home in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend the lead to 6-3.  Each team got a run in the fifth inning to make the score 7-4.  Fargo South added one more run in the top of the seventh.

T. Eastman had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Williams had a triple and an RBI.  Henry also finished with a triple.  Tad Tjaden and Talan Millage each had a hit.  D. Eastman finished with an RBI.  Henry pitched four innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits and four walks with five strikeouts.  D. Eastman pitched three innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Dell Rapids 9, Red River, Grand Forks 3

In the second game, Dell Rapids scored two runs in the first inning and two more in the second for a 4-0 lead.  Red River scored a run in the top of the third, but Dell Rapids added two more runs in the bottom oof the fourth for a 6-1 score.  Red River cut the lead in half, 6-3, with two runs in the top of the sixth.  Dell Rapids, however, pulled away with three runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 9-3 score.

Henry had two hits and two RBIs.  Cole Ruesink, Stubbe, and Millage all had a hit and an RBI each.  T. Eastman and Tjaden both had two hits apiece.  Williams and D. Eastman both added an RBI.  Quinn Carr pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on a hit and six walks with eight strikeouts.  Konrad Richeal pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed a hit and walk with two strikeouts.
