Quarrier Girls Fall to Hot-Shooting Titans

For two quarters, the Dell Rapids Quarrier girls hung with the Mt Vernon-Plankinton Titans.  However, the Titans hot shooting continued into the second half, and the Titans won 75-44 on Tuesday, February 6th.

Dell Rapids held a four-point lead, 12-8, with 5:00 to go in the opening quarter.  Mt Vernon-Plankinton went on a run to take a 20-12 lead and ended the first quarter leading 25-16.  The Quarriers started the second quarter on a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 27-25 with 5:25 left in the half.  The Titans went on a 20-8 run for a 47-33 lead at halftime.  Mt Vernon-Plankinton’s hot shooting beyond the three-point line continued into the second half, and the Titans outscored the Quarriers 28-11 in the final two quarters.

The Quarriers shot 36% (16-45) from the field overall, 27% (4-15) from three-point area, and 62% (8-13) from the free-throw line.  The Titans finished the game shooting 52% (29-56) overall, 52% (12-23) from three-point area, and 56% (5-9) from the free-throw line.  Emilee Fox made 11 of the 12 three-point shots.

Clara Justice finished with 10 points and five rebounds.  Jersi Schultz added nine points, two rebounds, and two assists.  Rorie Thoreson had eight points, two rebounds, and six assists.  Shelby Welbig had seven points and three rebounds, and Mya DeStigter had six points and three rebounds.
