The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team made a step forward toward the state tournament with a Region 3A opening round win on Tuesday, October 31st. The Quarriers hosted the McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars and won in straight sets by scores of 25-13, 25-13, and 25-6.
Dell Rapids got out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first set and grew the lead to 9-1 in a hurry. The Qurariers went ahead 14-3. McCook Central/Montrose cut the lead to 18-10, but Dell Rapids finished the set on a 7-3 run for a 25-13 win.
The second set started with a 3-3 tie, but Dell Rapids took an 8-4 lead. They slowly built the lead to 18-8 and cruised to a 25-13 win. The Quarriers carried the momentum into the third set. They started with an 8-3 lead and cruised to a 21-5 advantage before winning 25-6.
Sophi Randall finished with 23 set assists, five digs, and three kills. Madelynn Henry had 14 kills and three digs. Lauryn Kloth had seven kills, four blocks, and three ace serves. Kylee Fiddelke added four digs, two kills, and an ace. Elin Schoenhard had two kills, two digs, and four ace serves. Clara Justice had three kills and two blocks. Alaina Wolff had three digs and three set assists, and Karlie Ingalls finished with three ace serves.
Dell Rapids will host the Madison Bulldogs in a SoDak16 qualifying Region 3A match on Thursday, November 2nd.
