After games on Saturday, July 29th and Sunday, July 30th, the Dell Rapids Phils are the lone unbeaten team left in the 2023 South Dakota Class B Legion State Tournament in Redfield. The Phils will play in the championship game regardless of how their game on Monday finishes.
Dell Rapids 6, Salem/Montrose/Canova 0
The Phils scored six runs in the first two innings, one in the first and five in the second, and then held Salem/Montrose/Canova scoreless the entire game. In fact Salem/Montrose/Canova had just one hit the entire game on Saturday.
Jack Henry pitched six innings and allowed one hit and two walks while striking out 10 batters. Drake Eastman pitched one inning and walked one and struck out one. Brayden Pankonen had two hits and an RBI. Henry had a double and two RBIs. Aiden Boechler added a hit and an RBI. Dylan Kindt and CJ Smith each had a single.
Dell Rapids 8, Redfield 5
Redfield had an early 1-0 lead after two innings in the battle of unbeaten teams on Sunday. The Phils then scored three times in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead. Redfield cut the lead to 3-2 after another run in the bottom of the third. Dell Rapids then had a big five-run top of the fourth. Redfield cut into the lead with a run in the sixth and two in the seventh, but that was as close as they could get.
Pankonen had two hits and two RBIs. Kindt finished with a single and an RBI. Boechler, Mason Stubbe, Treyse Eastman, and D. Eastman all had one hit each. Smith added two RBIs, and Henry had one RBI. Tad Tjaden pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed five runs, just two earned, on three hits and three walks with seven strikeouts. Pankonen pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed one hit with two strikeouts.
