Mudcats Capture District 4B Title

The Dell Rapids Mudcats won the District 4B Tournament with a win over Canova on Saturday, July 29th.  Prior to the win over Canova, Dell Rapids defeated Lennox on Tuesday, July 25th.

Dell Rapids Mudcats 12, Lennox 1

The Mudcats broke open a 3-1 game after three innings with nine straight runs.  They scored five in the bottom of the fourth, one in the fifth, and three in the sixth before the game ended in the seventh on the 10-run rule.

Ty Hoglund had three hits, including a home run, and an RBI.  Chad Hunt had three hits, one a double, and four RBIs.  Grant Olson also had three hits, one a double.  Dalton Lehnan had two hits, one a home run, and two RBIs.  Mark Abrahamson also had two hits and an RBI.  Kole Zimmerman and Dalton Allen both finished with a single and an RBI.  Trevor Freudenthal added a single.  Kris Regas earned the win on the mound allowing one run on five hits with 10 strikeouts.

Dell Rapids Mudcats 10, Canova 3

The Mudcats scored built a 9-0 lead on their way to a 10-3 victory over the Canova Gang to capture the District 4B title.

Hoglund had three hits, including a double.  Zimmerman finished a home run and a double with two RBIs.  Carter Gullickson had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Abrahamson also had two hits, including a double.  Freudenthal had two singles and an RBI.  Elijah Story added a single and two RBIs.  Spencer Freudenthal had one hit.  Abrahamson pitched all nine innings and allowed three runs on five hits and eight walks.

Hoglund was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.  Abrahamson won the tournament batting title

The Mudcats will play Lennox/Chancellor/Worthing on Thursday, August 3rd at 1:00 p.m. in the opening round of the state tournament in Mitchell.
