PBR Keeps State Tourney Hopes Alive

Dell Rapids PBR kept their chances for making the amateur state tournament after a win on Sunday, July 23rd at the District 4B Tournament.  PBR lost their opening round game on Saturday, July 22nd.

The Cardinals scored four times in the bottom of the first inning, which was enough to defeat PBR in an opening round game on Saturday.  PBR cut the lead in half, 4-2, with two runs in the top of the third.  Flandreau got another run in the bottom of the third and one more in the seventh.

Riley Hoffman and Weston Hansen both had two singles each.  Brad Donovan had a triple and an RBI.  Tanner Solberg and Jordan Solberg each had a single.  Riley Calhoon added an RBI.  Trey Randel pitched seven innings and allowed six runs, five earned, on nine hits and four walks with seven strikeouts.  T. Solberg pitched one inning and allowed one hit and one walk.

Dell Rapids PBR 1, Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks 0

An RBI single in the bottom of the first by Hansen was enough offense as Brett Mogen pitched eight innings and allowed three hits and one walk with 15 strikeouts.  The win ended the season for the Wood Ducks and helped PBR to have another chance to qualify for state.

Hansen finished with a single and an RBI.  Reese Arbogast had a double.  Donovan finished with two hits.  Arbogast got the save by pitching one inning while allowing one hit and striking out three batters.
