The Dell Rapids Mudcats won their first round game of the District 4B Tournament in Flandreau on Saturday, July 22nd. The Mudcats cruised past Madison 14-2 in seven innings to advance to the semifinals.
Madison scored in the top of the first inning. Dell Rapids tied the game in the bottom of the first and then erupted for seven runs in the second. Madison made the score 8-2 with a run in the top of the fifth. The Mudcats then scored two in the fifth and four in the sixth.
The Mudcats were able to take advantage of 12 walks and three hit batters in the game. Grant Olson had two hits and two RBIs. Trevor Freudenthal and Dalton Lehnen both had two hits and an RBI. Mark Abrahamson had a double and two RBIs. Ty Hoglund added a home run and an RBI. Chad Hunt and Kris Regas both had a single and an RBI. Kole Zimmerman had a hit, and Spencer Freudenthal had an RBI. Lehnen pitched seven innings and allowed two runs on four hits with 11 strikeouts.
