The Dell Rapids Phils got two wins in region play in Volga on Monday, July 17th. The Phils defeated both Madison and Baltic to advance to the semifinal round.
Dell Rapids 12, Madison 2
Three runs in the bottom of the first inning were enough for Dell Rapids in the first game of regions. The offense, though, kept rolling. Dell Rapids added another run in the second for a 4-0 lead. Madison scored one time in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 4-1. Dell Rapids then had back-to-back four-run innings to end the game 12-2 on the 10-run rule in the fifth.
Jack Henry had two hits, including a home run and a double, and four RBIs. Brayden Pankonen also had two hits, one a double, and an RBI. Aiden Boechler added a single and two RBIs. Dylan Kindt and Joe Rechtenbaugh each had a hit and an RBI. Henry pitched four innings and allowed two earned runs on a hit and five walks with nine strikeouts. Pankonen pitched an inning and allowed a hit with one strikeout.
Dell Rapids 8, Baltic 0
Another big first inning helped Dell Rapids to an 8-0 lead over Baltic in the second game of the night. The Phils scored five times in the bottom of the first, and then had a two-run third inning and a run in the fourth. The pitching staff held Baltic to just three hits in the game.
Pankonen, Mason Stubbe, and Treyse Eastman all had a single and an RBI. Kindt and Henry each had a single as well. Kindt pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed three hits and three walks with eight strikeouts. Tad Tjaden pitched the final 2/3 of an inning and walked one and struck out one.
