The Dell Rapids Mudcats increased their lead in the Cornbelt League after a 7-2 win over the Canova Gang on Sunday, July 9th. The game was a battle of the top two teams in the league.
The Mudcats broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning with a run. They added one more in the top of the fifth for a 2-0 lead. Canova cut the lead to 2-1 after a run in the bottom of the fifth. The score remained 2-1 until the top of the seventh inning. Dell Rapids scored three times while Canova scored once. After seven innings of play, Dell Rapids led 5-2. The Mudcats put the game away with two more runs in the ninth.
Dalton Lehnen had four hits in the game. Kole Zimmerman had three hits, including a home run, with two RBIs. Trevor Freudenthal also had three hits with an RBI. Kris Regas had two hits, one a home run, and two RBIs. Grant Olson added two singles and an RBI. Mark Abrahamson collected two hits. Lehnen pitched a complete game allowing two runs on five hits with 16 strikeouts.
