The quest for a three-peat championship for Dell Rapids baseball ended in the semifinals of the 2023 South Dakota High School Baseball Association State B Tournament on Tuesday, May 30th. Dell Rapids fell to Bon Homme/Avon 5-0 finishing their season with an 18-2 record.
Riley Rothschadl was dominate on the mound all game long. Rothschadl pitched a seven inning, no-hitter while striking out 16 batters for Bon Homme/Avon. He even finished with two triples and an RBI offensively. Bon Homme/Avon broke a scoreless tie with a run in the top of the third, and then added four runs in the top of the fifth.
Dell Rapids only had three base runners all game. Jack Henry, Dylan Mathis, and Will Jaton all earned a walk. Henry pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Brayden Pankonen pitched 2 2/3 innings without allowing a hit with two walks.
