Quarrier Softball Wins Defensive Battle in Extra Innings

The Dell Rapids Quarriers and Madison Bulldogs softball teams put together an exciting game in Madison on Friday, April 14th.  The two pitcher’s got locked into a duel, and Dell Rapids (3-0) came home with a 2-1 extra inning win.

Dell Rapids scored first in the top of the third on a two-out, RBI triple by Jaycee Tebay.  Madison tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when a run came home on an error.  Both teams were able to get runners in scoring position a couple of times, but both pitchers got out of jams as the score remained 1-1 after seven innings of play.

With the game going into extra innings, each team started their inning with a runner on second.  Tebay led off the top of the eighth with an RBI double to put Dell Rapids ahead 2-1.  Tebay did advance to third in the inning, but was unable to score.  The Bulldogs got their runner over to third base, but they were not able to bring her home to tie the game.

Both starting pitchers pitched the entire game and threw over 100 pitches.  They also both struck out 14 batters and only walked three.  Katie Kvigne allowed an earned run on two hits to go along with her three walks and 14 strikeouts.  Dell Rapids finished with five hits total.  Tebay had a triple and double with two RBIs.  Katie Scherff had a triple.  Kylee Fiddelke and Liz Price each had a hit as well.
