Solid Defense Leads to Win for Quarrier Girls

The Dell Rapids Quarrier (3-14) defense was the story in a 53-29 win over the Webster Area Bearcats at the Dak-12/NEC Clash in Madison on Saturday, February 4th.  Dell Rapids only allowed double-digit points in one of the four quarters.

The Quarriers never trailed in the game either.  The started the game on a 7-0 run and led 15-10 at the end of the first quarter.  The lead grew to 31-19 by halftime and then 38-23 at the end of the third quarter.  Dell Rapids outscored Webster 15-6 in the final quarter.

The Quarrier defense forced 23 turnovers, 11 of those on steals, and scored 20 points off of those turnovers.  Dell Rapids shot 33% (21-63) overall, 32% (8-25) from three-point area, and 3-11 from the free-throw line.  The Bearcats were just 18% (7-38) shooting overall, 0-12 on three-point attempts, and 75% (15-20) from the free-throw line.

Claire Wynja, named the game’s MVP, had 13 points, seven rebounds, and three steals.  Jenna Miller had 16 points, four rebounds, and two assists.  Elly Olson had seven points, 11 rebounds, three steals, and two assists.  Clara Justice finished with seven points and nine rebounds.  Kerrigan Kindopp added five points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Liz Price had four points and six rebounds.
