Quarriers Grind out Win at Beresford

The Dell Rapids Quarrier football team remained undefeated after grinding out a 20-6 road win over the Beresford Watchdogs on Friday, September 30th.

Dell Rapids set the tone right away in the first quarter.  After receiving the opening kickoff, the Quarriers opening drive lasted eight minutes and fifteen seconds.  The drive ended with a three-yard touchdown run by Mason Stubbe and extra point by Camden Justice with 3:45 to play in the quarter.

The Quarriers added another touchdown in the second quarter.  Jack Henry had a five-hard run with 3:07 left in the half.  Justice made the extra point, and Dell Rapids led 14-0.  The score remained 14-0 at halftime.

Beresford tried to replicate the Quarriers’ game-opening drive to start the third quarter.  The Watchdogs held the ball for just over six minutes and scored on a one-yard touchdown run with 5:54 in the quarter.  The extra point was blocked, and Dell Rapids led 14-6.  The Quarrier defense was the story in the second half as they made multiple stops deep in their own zone to keep the Watchdogs from any more scores.

Stubbe put the exclamation point on the win with a 22-yard run on third down with 1:53 left in the game.

Dell Rapids had 289 yards of total offense, 124 passing yards and 165 rushing yards.  Beresford had 145 yards of offense, 141 rushing yards and just four passing yards.  The Quarriers had 15 total first downs, while the Watchdogs finished with six in the game.

Henry finished 6-10 passing for 124 yards and an interception.  Braden Fersdahl had two catches for 62 yards.  Stubbe had three catches for 39 yards, and Brayden Pankonen had a catch for 23 yards.  Pankonen also finished with 10 carries for 56 yards.  Stubbe had 14 carries for 48 yards and two touchdowns.  Henry had six carries for 38 yards and a touchdown, and Chase Jones had two carries for 13 yards.

Jones had 6.5 tackles on the night.  Aiden Geraets had 5.5 tackles.  Will Jaton finished with 4.5 tackles.  Stubbe added 3.5 tackles, Henry finished with three tackles, and Cole Ruesink had 2.5 tackles.
