Quarriers Finish Second in Orange Division at Sanford Pentagon Tournament

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team finished 3-1 and placed second in the Orange Division at the Sanford Pentagon on Saturday, September 24th.

Dell Rapids 2, Hamlin 1

In the first match of the day, the Quarriers beat previously unbeaten Hamlin Chargers in three sets.  Dell Rapids won the first set 25-10.  Hamlin took a close second set by the score of 25-23, but Dell Rapids won the third set 25-14.

Maddie Henry had 17 kills, seven digs, and two ace serves.  Lauryn Kloth finished with seven kills, four digs, and three aces.  Sophi Randall had 27 set assists, 14 digs, and seven kills.  Kylee Fiddelke added five kills, eight digs, and two ace serves.  Lexi Ingalls had six digs and two aces.  Alaina Wolff finished with 12 digs and eight set assists.

Dell Rapids 2, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 0

The Quarriers breezed through their second match of the tournament against the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders.  Dell Rapids won in straight sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-21.

Randall finished the match with 17 set assists, eight kills, nine digs, and two blocks.  Henry had six kills and four digs.  Clara Justice added five kills.  Ingalls had eight digs and two ace serves.  Kloth had two blocks in the match.  Fiddelke had seven digs and two blocks, and Wolff finished with nine digs and six set assists.

The Quarriers finished first in their pool play to earn a first round bye in bracket play.

Dell Rapids 2, Colman-Egan 1

After the first round bye, the Quarriers faced Colman-Egan in bracket play.  The CE Hawks won the first set 25-21, but Dell Rapids rebounded to take the next two sets and win the match.  The Quarriers won by scores of 25-22 and 25-18.

Kloth had a team-high 11 kills and four blocks.  Henry finished with 10 kills and six digs.  Randall added 28 set assists, 16 digs, 10 kills, and two blocks.  Justice had five kills.  Fiddelke also had five kills along with two ace serves and two blocks.  Wolff had 11 digs, seven set assists, and two ace serves.  Ingalls finished with eight digs.

Elkton-Lake Benton 2, Dell Rapids 0

The Quarriers then faced the Elkton-Lake Benton Elks for the championship match.  The Elks took the first set by a score of 25-16.  The second set was a very hard-fought, exciting set that needed 10 extra points to be decided.  The Elks eventually won the set 35-33 to win the match.

Kloth had 13 kills and three digs in the match.  Henry finished with 13 kills and six digs.  Randall had 26 set assists and eight digs.  Wolff added eight digs, and Ingalls had three digs and an ace serve.
