PBR Scores Win over Crofton

Dell Rapids PBR scored three times in the third inning and held on for a 3-1 win over the Crofton Blue Jays in the Cornbelt League / Sunshine League Showdown in Humboldt on Saturday, June 18th.

Riley Calhoon hit an RBI sacrifice fly for the first run of the game. Trey Randel brought home two runs with a two-out single for a 3-1 lead. Crofton, which was held to just one hit, scored on an error in the top of the fourth inning.

Randel had a hit and two RBIs. Calhoon had a hit and an RBI. Grant Sweeter finished with a double. Riley Hoffman and Tim Wilhelmsen both had a hit as well. Beau Behrend pitched seven innings and allowed an unearned run on a hit and walk while striking out 10 batters.

PBR Wins Marathon Game Against Colman

The final score will read 11-3 in favor of Dell Rapids PBR, but the game took 17 innings to get to that point in Colman on Thursday, June 16th. Both Dell Rapids PBR and Colman scored two runs each late in the game, and then remained tied 3-3 four eight innings.

Beau Behrend had an RBI single in the top of the second to give PBR an early 1-0 lead. Colman tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. The score remained 1-1 until the top of the eighth. Teagan Schlimgen scored on a passed ball, and Behrend scored on an error to give the lead back to PBR, 3-1. Colman got one run back on an RBI groundout, and then the tying run with two outs to send the game into extra innings.

Colman put together many threats in extra innings. They had a runner on second with two outs in the 11th and 13th innings, but were unable to score. Colman then loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the 14th, but Trey Randel got a strikeout to leave the bases full and keep the game going.

PBR finally broke through in the top of the 17th. Back-to-back singles, and walk, and an RBI single by Conner Spindler broke the 3-3 tie. Dell Rapids continued to ride the momentum and the next three batters reached pushing the score to 8-3. They would score three more times before their half of the inning was done.

Riley Calhoon had three hits. Behrend had two hits and two RBIs. Weston Hanson, Spindler, and Randel all had two singles and an RBI. Grant Sweeter had two hits, one a double. Riley Hoffman also had two hits. Schlimgen and Tim Wilhelmson both had a single.

Hoffman pitched the first seven innings and allowed an unearned run on four hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. Randel pitched the final 10 innings and allowed two runs, both unearned, on five hits and six walks while recording 12 strikeouts.

Mudcats Snap Five-Game Skid

The Dell Rapids Mudcats got back into the win column, snapping a five-game losing streak, with a 12-1 win over Madison on Thursday, June 16th.

Dell Rapids scored two runs in the second inning, three more in the third, and another in the sixth for a 6-0 lead. Madison got their only run in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Mudcats then picked up two more runs in the seventh and four in the eighth.

Kris Regas had three hits and an RBI. Mark Abrahamson had a two-run home run in the game. Ty Hoglund finished with a double and two RBIs. Trevor Freudenthal, Dalton Allen, and Elijah Story all had hits. Logan Stone had an RBI.

Regas earned the win on the mound allowing one run on four hits while striking out 18 batters.

Dell Rapids Legion Wins Battle of Champions

The 2022 South Dakota High School Class B Champions, Dell Rapids, hosted the 2022 North Dakota High School Class B Champions, Thompson Tommies, in a legion baseball game at Rickeman Field on Thursday, June 16th. The was just as good as the hype leading up to it.

Jack Henry drove home the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI fielder’s choice. Thompson tied the game with a run in the top of the second. The Tommies broke the tie with a run in the top of the fourth, and then they added two more in the top of the sixth for a 4-1 lead.

Dell Rapids then put together a rally in the bottom of the sixth. Aiden Boechler drove in two runs with a single to cut the lead to 4-3. CJ Smith gave Dell Rapids the lead with a two-run single to center field. Thompson got two runners on base with two outs, but the game ended with a ground out to Smith at first.

Landon Ruesink had two hits. Boechler and Smith both had a single and two RBIs each. Brayden Pankonen, Dylan Mathis, and Joe Rechtenbaugh all had singles. Henry finished with an RBI. Treyse Eastman started on the mound and pitched four innings allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Henry got the win with three innings pitched. He allowed two unearned runs on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Two Late Runs Gives Dell Rapids 16U Victory over West Central

Dell Rapids 16U scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to break a 3-3 tie and get a 5-3 win over West Central 16U at home on Thursday, June 16th.

Dell Rapids scored the first two runs of the game. Tad Tjaden scored on a double-play in the bottom of the first inning, and then Tjaden drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the second for a 2-0 lead. West Central got two runs on an error in the top of the fourth and then got an RBI ground out to take a 3-2 lead.

Lincoln Fersdahl was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded to tie the game 3-3. Dell Rapids then took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Grady Lamer had an RBI bunt, and Carson Crosby reached on an error that scored Lamer.

Tjaden had two hits and an RBI. Fersdahl had a hit and RBI. Cole Ruesink finished with a double. Sutton Williams, Cooper Frost, and Quinn Carr all had singles. Lamer and Crosby each had an RBI. Konrad Richeal pitched four innings and allowed three unearned runs on two hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Crosby pitched three innings giving up two hits and four walks with five strikeouts.

Dakota Valley Gets Win over Dell Rapids Legion

A three-run first inning by Dakota Valley proved to the difference in a 5-2 win over Dell Rapids on Wednesday, June 15th at North Sioux City.

Dell Rapids scored first in the top of the first inning. Dylan Mathis had an RBI single for an early 1-0 lead. Dakota Valley posted a three-run first inning and led 3-1 after one inning of play. The score remained 3-1 until the top of the fifth. Mason Stubbe scored on a balk to cut the lead to 3-2, but Dakota Valley scored two times in the bottom of the fifth in the win.

Dell Rapids only had two hits in the game. Mathis had an RBI single, and Joe Rechtenbaugh had a single. Rechtenbaugh pitched six innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on eight hits and five walks with five strikeouts.

Early Lead Gives Dell Rapids Navy 14U Win

Dell Rapids Navy 14U scored nine times in the first two innings while collecting 10 hits in a 10-2 win over Flandreau on Wednesday, June 15th at Volunteer Field in Dell Rapids.

Logan Donovan got the scoring started for Dell Rapids in the bottom of the first with an RBI single. Carson Maeschen and Tollin Peterson followed with RBI singles to give Dell Rapids a 3-0 lead. They would score six more times in the bottom of the second inning. Maeschen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Peterson and Noah Larson had RBI doubles, Jack Paterson walked with the bases loaded, and Thomas Lavoy had an RBI ground out to push the lead to 9-0.

Flandreau was able to get one run in the top of the third inning and another in the top of the fourth inning. Dell Rapids scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI triple by Peterson.

Peterson had three hits, a single, double and triple, along with four RBIs. Kenny Swanson had two hits. Larson had a double and an RBI. Maeschen finished with a hit and two RBIs. Lavoy and Donovan both had a single and an RBI. Jake Heinitz finished with a single, and Paterson had an RBI.

Donovan earned the win on the mound. He pitched six innings while allowing two runs, one earned, on four walks while striking out 12 batters. Swanson pitched the final inning and allowed two walks.

Sioux Falls Post 15 Takes Two from Dell Rapids Legion

Sioux Falls Post 15 won both games of a double-header with Dell Rapids Legion in Dell Rapids on Tuesday, June 14th. They won the first one 7-6 and the second game 11-7.

Sioux Falls 7, Dell Rapids 6

Post 15 scored three runs right away in the top of the first of the first game. Dell Rapids tied the game with three runs of their own in the bottom of the second. Treyse Eastman hit an RBI sacrifice fly, and Braden Fersdahl drove home two with a single to center field.

Sioux Falls took the lead again in the top of the third with a run, but Dell Rapids again tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. CJ Smith had an RBI sacrifice bunt to score Aiden Boechler. Sioux Falls took a two-run lead, 6-4, after single runs in the top of the fifth and sixth inning.

Dell Rapids, one more time, tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Will Jaton had an RBI double, and Eastman had an RBI ground out to make it a 6-6 ball game. Sioux Falls got the game-winning run in the top of the seventh on an RBI, one-out double.

Boechler had three hits in the game. Fersdahl had a hit and two RBIs. Jaton had a double and an RBI. Brayden Pankonen finished with a single. Eastman had two RBIs, and Smith had an RBI. Jaton pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing seven runs, six earned, on 11 hits and four walks with four strikeouts. Pankonen pitched 2/3 of an inning with two walks and a strikeout.

Sioux Falls 11, Dell Rapids 7

Sioux Falls Post 15 had an eight-run third inning to propel them to an 11-7 win in the second game.

Dell Rapids took an early run with four runs in the bottom of the second. Boechler had an RBI ground ball. Pankonen had a two-run single, and Austin Harvey scored on a wild pitch for a 4-0 lead. Sioux Falls, however, took the lead for good in the game with their eight-run third inning.

Joe Rechtenbaugh had an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning. Jack Henry added an RBI triple in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 8-6. Sioux Falls then got two runs in the top of the fifth. Boechler scored on a passed ball for Dell Rapids in the bottom of the fifth. Sioux Falls got another run in the top of the seventh.

Landon Ruesink had two hits. Pankonen had a hit and two RBIs. Henry had a triple and an RBI. Boechler had a triple. Evan Nelson had a single. Rechtenbaugh finished with an RBI. Fersdahl pitched two innings and allowed two earned runs on six walks and a strikeout. Smith gave up four earned runs on a hit and two walks. Dylan Mathis threw four innings allowing three earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts. Nelson also pitched an inning and allowed two runs, one earned, on a hit and two walks with two strikeouts.

Baltic 16U Beats Dell Rapids

Baltic scored four straight runs in a 4-2 win over Dell Rapids in an I-29 16U League game in Dell Rapids on Tuesday, June 14th.

Dell Rapids scored first in the bottom of the second inning. Brandon Schmidt had an RBI ground out that scored Cooper Frost for the first run. Riley Schultz had an RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the third to tie the game 1-1. Baltic took the lead in the top of the fourth when Carson Eggert scored on a throw to third after a ground out.

The lead for Baltic grew to 4-1 after two runs in the top of the sixth. Gunner Schultz had a two-run single with two outs. Dell Rapids got one run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI ground out by Luke Schoolmeester.

Baltic was led by G. Schultz with two hits and two RBIs. Tayden Hansen, Jose Valadaz, and Landon Peterson all had hits. R. Schutlz and Blake Hookie both had RBIs. Hansen pitched seven innings allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

Lincoln Fersdahl had two hits for Dell Rapids. Cole Ruesink and Talan Millage both had a single. Schoolmeester and Schmidt each had an RBI. Mason Stubbe pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits and four walks with six strikeouts. Fersdahl pitched two innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Dell Rapids 16U Wins Two

The Dell Rapids 16U baseball team won two games at home on Sunday, June 12th. Dell Rapids got a 12-0 win over Hamlin and 8-0 over Madison White 8-0.

Dell Rapids 12, Hamlin 0

Dell Rapids scored in every inning while two pitchers combined to hold Hamlin without a hit in the game. Things got started in the bottom of the first for Dell Rapids with three runs. They scored six more in the second, three in the third, and one more in the fourth.

Quinn Carr had two hits, one a triple, and two RBIs. Lincoln Fersdahl had two doubles and an RBI. Cooper Frost had a double and two RBIs. Luke Schoolmeester, Carson Crosby, and Grady Lamer all had a single and an RBI. Cole Ruesink also had a hit. Talan Millage pitched three innings and recorded two strikeouts. Fersdahl pitched two innings and allowed two walks with three strikeouts.

Dell Rapids 8, Madison White 0

A seven run third inning helped Dell Rapids to an 8-0 win over Madison White. Tad Tjaden held Madison to just three hits and one walk while striking out 11 batters.

Ruesink had two hits and two RBIs. Mason Stubbe finished with two hits and an RBI. Brandon Schmidt had a double. Fersdahl, Millage, and Frost all had a single. Carr, Tjaden, and Schoolmeester each had an RBI.
